Troy, AL – Aug. 14, 2009 –Troy became the site of one of the country’s newest hotel design prototypes – and two local charitable organizations gained as well – when Marriott International, Inc., and Dothan-based Larry Blumberg and Associates (LBA) recently opened the new, 90-room Courtyard by Marriott at the intersection of US Hwy 231 and George Wallace Dr.
The new hotel is one of the first Courtyards in the country to feature a new, contemporary lobby design. (Take a video tour at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mB05QhrG2s.)
Mayor Jimmy Lunsford, on hand for the event, said, “The opening of a new hotel, especially one that carries such a major national flag as Marriott, is a sign of the growth and healthy future of Troy.”
Barry Kraselsky, president of LBA, and Beau Benton, chief operating officer, explained the process that went into choosing Troy for the site of the new hotel concept. “With Troy, we feel that we are investing in the future,” said Benton. “Troy’s expanding economic outlook, the strong presence of Troy University, and the location on US Hwy 231 were all factors in our decision.”
In the tradition of new LBA hotel openings, the Courtyard presented two checks, for $1,000 each, to Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center and Troy Pike Habitat for Humanity. The donations were part of the LBA C.A.R.E.S. (Caring Associates Ready and Empowered to Serve) program, through which the company encourages all of its hotels to “give back” to their communities. Courtyard associates will also receive paid vacation hours for volunteering.
The new Courtyard caters to today’s business and leisure travelers, offering wireless internet throughout the hotel, new luxury Marriott bedding, a home theatre room, library and business center. The Bistro Café is the central gathering place for drinks, Starbucks coffee, breakfast and dinner.
The Troy Courtyard employs more than 30 individuals.
